Be Heard.

It's Election Day. Quite honestly, I feel that today is up there with all of the other patriotic days that bring us together... like Independence Day, Veteran's Day, or President's Day (you know you like those "tax free" furniture sales!). Today is a day that holds the past, the present, and the future. The past: knowing our nation's history. Because not too long ago women and people of color were not allowed to vote. The present: because our nation is in a rut and we have many issues. The future: because what we bubble in on our ballots directs our future.
Voting is a privilege that comes with the American freedoms and democracy. Too often our voices aren't heard. We live in a society where people don't truly talk to each other anymore or discuss real issues. Today we get to be heard. The national issues that bother you can only begin to be changed with the small issues in front of you. Your one voice will mark the course of history. Hashtag: no pressure.
Be informed. Be ready. Go vote. I don't care who you vote for, I won't judge you based on your opinions, but I will judge you if you are able to vote and refuse to.
As Oprah Winfrey said at a recent event, “For anybody here who has an ancestor who didn’t have the right to vote and you are choosing not to vote wherever you are in this state, in this country, you are dishonoring your family. You are disrespecting and disregarding their legacy, their suffering and their dreams when you don’t vote.”
Go. Vote.
